Overview
The five Jyotirlingas spread across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh form a powerful spiritual circuit for devotees of Lord Shiva. In Maharashtra, Trimbakeshwar near Nashik is revered for its unique three-faced lingam representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh; Bhimashankar, nestled in the Sahyadri hills, is surrounded by dense forests and legends of Shiva’s battle with the demon Tripurasura; and Grishneshwar near the Ellora Caves is the smallest Jyotirlinga but rich in devotion and history. In Madhya Pradesh, Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain stands as a fierce symbol of time and cosmic power, famous for its early morning Bhasma Aarti, while Omkareshwar, located on the sacred island shaped like the Om symbol in the Narmada River, radiates serenity and divine energy. Together, these five shrines offer a profound journey through devotion, mythology, and the living presence of Shiva across central India.
